Denim Jackets & Jewels

It's all about the closet staples this fall, especially if you're shopping on a budget- I know I am. Just because you're not planning on spending as much on clothes for the upcoming season doesn't mean that you can't look cute every single day. It's all about what you purchase and how much you purchase it for. This is where smart shopping comes into play. Not sure how to start? Keep reading.

I used to spend a lot on purchasing clothes just because I thought something was cute and not because I necessarily had somewhere to wear it or anything to even match it with in my closet. That's not very smart shopping at all. What you end up with is a closet bursting at the seams, packed with items that you'll most likely never wear or only wear once and .... a low bank account. If this is you, you need to stop right there! Spending money on clothes you're never going to wear again isn't going to help you in the long run.

So, what is going to help you in the long run?

Make a budget
Knowing how much money you need to save up before you head out to go shopping or shop online is crucial so that you know exactly how much money you're allowing yourself to spend on clothes just for the season.

Know your style
Knowing your style or what type of look you want to go for is also just as important as setting up a budget for yourself. If you know you like florals, don't opt for that geometric print that you know you'll never wear.

Have an idea of what you need to buy
Instead of blindly going to the mall, I already have an idea of what I'm looking for. Maybe I need a new pair of black denim that I know I'll wear with everything, so I'm not going to buy those bright red pants that I'll be too embarrassed to wear unless its December.

Don't shop sporadically
Plan shopping dates once you've saved up enough money or budgeted yourself. Don't randomly go to the mall whenever you feel like it. You will find something you had no intentions of finding when you randomly go to the mall.

These rules are hard to stick by at first, trust me...been there, done that. But, it will make your closet less jam-packed with items you'll never wear for years, and you'll end up saving more money.

So, back to key items to have in your closet...

Now that you've got an idea of your budget, your style, and when you'll go shopping this season, you should probably know some closet staples to keep or buy. The outfit I'm wearing in this post is made entirely of closet staples. See how easy it can be?

The Denim Jacket
One of my absolute favorite staples to keep in the closet is my trusty denim jacket. Why? Well, because you can wear it pretty much all year round, it will never go out of style and you can use it for layering or styling outfits.

The White Button Down
Another major closet staple to have is a plain white button down blouse. You can dress this item up or down and also wear it year round.

The Statement Necklace
Even if you aren't big into jewelry, you should invest in a smaller, more affordable statement necklace. You never know when you'll need to dress up that casual outfit, or throw on an LBD for the evening.

The Black Denim Pants
Black denim pants are probably just as important as having your regular blue jeans. They're perfect for fall and winter, and if you aren't sure how to style them beyond this post, keep checking back this fall for new ways to wear your black denim.

The Red Flats
Red flats are a good staple item to keep in your closet in case your outfit needs that extra pop of color. Red shoes can make any outfit go from eh to wow! Pair them with your black denim pants, a white button down and throw a denim jacket over to complete your look.
