I am so happy and thankful to share my 1 year blogassary (blog anniversary) with you guys! When I first started blogging, I had no idea what would come of it and I even often doubted myself, thinking that I might quit after only a couple of months. I wanted to share some things I've learned throughout the year and answer some questions I often get from aspiring bloggers that will hopefully help you out in starting or continuing on your journey.
Some things I've learned
Never, ever give up! If you feel like your content or brand isn't taking off right away, it's because nothing really happens over night. I'm still learning what my personal style is and how to show what it is. It's forever changing, which means my content is forever changing. I'm still experimenting with what my current and future readers want to see, read or know about.
Make blogger friends. If you want your blog to be successful, you need a good team. You can probably do it on your own, but it doesn't hurt to have a great team behind you and to make friends with other bloggers. My friends keep me motivated and encourage me to keep posting, even when traffic seems to slow down a bit. Plus, it makes it that much more fun when you're friends with others who are right in there with you!
Keep trying new things. You never know what will happen until you try something new. Your current readers, and possibly even others who stumble across your site or social media channels, are your best critics and you can tell what works and what doesn't based on their reactions.
Frequently asked questions from aspiring bloggers
The most common question I get is, "How do I get started?" I this is what I always recommend:
1. Plan what you want your content to be about. If you want to write about Fashion, beauty, or travel, write it down.
2. Make a chart of how or what you want to show people. Is it tutorials? Maybe your fitness journey?
3. Think about how often you want to post. Consistency is key and it's what people subconsciously look for when they look through your social media channels or your website. If you haven't posted something in weeks, or weeks apart, they probably won't be very attracted. You want to prevent this from happening by thinking about your content in advance and having it ready so that you never run out.
4. Just do it. I had been wanting to start a fashion blog since 2006. It took me a very long time to finally get the courage to just try it out.
Another common question I get is, "How do you get people to view your content?" Well, I got most of my web viewers through my social media channels. People aren't going to just stumble upon your website. You have to put it out there and gain attention by advertising yourself through pictures on instagram, maybe asking people questions on twitter.
I hope that this post inspires you to start your blog or inspires you to keep going. Here are some BTS photos from some shoots I used to do by myself. Prepare to laugh!
